New revelations about NASA’s supersonic passenger plane
Washington: The American space agency NASA has made new revelations about its supersonic hydrogen plane.
NASA is investigating a Mach 4 passenger plane that could travel from New York to London in just 1.5 hours.
If successful, the flight time would be four times shorter than current commercial aircraft and would also break the record of 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 59 seconds set by Concorde in 1996.
According to NASA, the agency has identified 50 potential passenger markets and routes for the aircraft. With the United States and other countries banning supersonic flight over land, the study sheds light on transoceanic routes. These routes include most of the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
For this aircraft to be commercially successful, the laws governing supersonic flight on Earth would have to change.
NASA plans to conduct further research to bring commercial flights between Mach 2 and Mach 4.
The project with NASA also includes Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace, as well as aircraft manufacturer Boeing.
